Swigert, Roosevelt Edison no longer on lockdown

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Swigert Academy and Roosevelt Edison Charter Academy were placed on a precautionary lock down because of police activity nearby Tuesday morning. The lockdown has now been lifted.

Police say two men who officers were looking for have been detained in a neighborhood near South Academy Boulevard and East Pikes Peak Avenue.

Police say they tried to pull a car over for a traffic violation when driver took off.  There was a short chase. Police say the car ran at least one red light before two men in the car jumped out and took off running.

"In this case one of the guys that ran was hiding in a shed and potentially could have ran into somebody's house.  So, we want to make sure that our citizens are safe," said Sgt. Joe Matiatos.

Colorado Springs Police Department was able to find the men within about one hour after the chase began.  Once found, the men were taken into custody without further incident.

"We kind of wonder why you're running.  I mean, if it's just a traffic violation, is there more to it?  Are you wanted?"  said Matiatos, who said the men are being questioned and are facing charges of eluding. No names have been released.

With the use of K-9 units, police were able to find the men, who will be questioned.

The schools were locked down while police searched for the men.  The lockdowns were lifted before 11 a.m.
