Telmosse Christmas give away continues to help children, families

Telmosse giveaway helps kids, families celebrate Christmas

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - For the 31st year, struggling families in Colorado Springs got some help for Christmas courtesy of Bob Telmosse.

Around 8,000 families waited in long lines for the big toy giveaway. Those families can take gifts for their families no questions asked. The first family showed up Friday night at 9 p.m.

For Telmosse, the annual gift-giving event was a passion project. He passed away in 2006.

"He said the only thing he wanted was us to keep the giveaway going for as long as we could," said Carol Reinert, who was married to Telmosse and helped organize the giveaway. "It has grown immensely--ten-fold. I'm so proud and I know he would be, too."

More than 500 bikes, hundreds of coats and thousands of turkeys are part of this year's haul. It all comes from donations.

Before kids are able to pick out a toy, they're given a stuffed animal and a book.

Since Telmosse passed away, organizers believe they've helped 50,000 children have a better Christmas.
