Traffic stop leads to drug bust in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs Police say a traffic stop turned into something much bigger.

Investigators say that on March 15, 2014, a police officer pulled over a driver who was suspected of driving under the influence. The traffic stop happened on Barnes Road near Oro Blanco Drive.

Police say the officer found 84 grams of cocaine, 137.8 grams of heroin, 52.5 grams of methamphetamine and $8,479 in the vehicle. They say the drugs were packaged for distribution.

The driver, identified as Juan Gomez Perez, 23, was arrested. He is facing charges for possessing drugs with the intent to distribute them.

Colorado Springs Police say their investigation led them to an apartment at 2418 Raywood View, which is near Briargate Parkway and Chapel Hills Drive.

Detectives from the Metro Vice and Narcotics Unit obtained a warrant to search the apartment. Police say they found 315.3 grams of cocaine, 1505.9 grams of heroin, and 1612.4 grams of methamphetamine -- all packaged for distribution.

In addition to the drugs, police say they found $44,505 cash and two handguns in the apartment.

Three additional men were arrested following the raid at the apartment. They have been identified as Carlos Estrada Cruz, 23, Luis Lopez-Cruz, 24 and Marcos Lopez Gonzalez, 21. All three are facing drug charges.

In total, police say this investigation led to the seizure of 399.3 grams of cocaine, 3.62 pounds of heroin, 3.67 pounds of methamphetamine, $52,984 and two guns.
