Two killed in Las Animas County crash

TRINIDAD, Colo. - Two men are dead and a third is in critical condition following a weekend crash in Trinidad.

The community news site Around Trinidad reports the accident happened on the Van Buren Street Bridge near I-25 south of Trinidad Sunday night (9/29/13).

The site says that Justin Callicutt, 20, of Colorado Springs, and an unidentified 17-year-old from Trinidad died in the crash. A third person, Joshua Young, 20, of Trinidad was airlifted to a hospital in Pueblo. Young was last reported in critical condition.

Around Trinidad reports that witnesses told police the truck the men were riding in swerved off the road, hit a support post for a sign, and went airborne. The truck reportedly slammed into a concrete bridge abutment and rotated 180 degrees before coming to a rest.

It's believed that speed and reckless driving may have contributed to the accident according to Around Trinidad , though no charges have been filed.

The crash is currently under investigation.
