University Drive shooting victim identified

1 dead, no suspects after shooting in Colo. Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs Police have released the name of the man who was shot and killed on University Drive Tuesday afternoon.

Police say Andrew Aguilar, 24, was shot at an apartment complex on the 200 block of University Drive at 5:15 Tuesday afternoon.  His name has not been released.

Police tell KRDO NewsChannel13 they believe this is an isolated incident and there is no continuing danger to the community.

One neighbor, Anthony, told KRDO that he had just gotten home when he heard a gun shot.  He came outside and saw a man bleeding on his neighbor's porch.

"I heard the pop, and at first I thought it's some kids playing with fireworks or something," Anthony said.  "Then I heard the screaming, and it just popped in my head.  I knew what happened."

Anthony said the neighborhood is known for gang violence and he did not know the man who was killed.

"Honestly, it doesn't really phase me too much," Anthony said.  "That's kind of messed up for me to say, but I grew up in these types of neighborhoods. It always happens."

Should the coroner's office determine this is a homicide, it would mark the 19th of the year in Colorado Springs.
