EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. - Colorado Department of Transportation leaders have closed several highways along the front range due to blowing snow and icy roads.
Highway 24 between Limon and Calhan has been closed since around 1:30 p.m. due to blowing snow.
The wind, coming out of the north, is causing severe problems for drivers trying to make it along the east-west route.
KRDO Newschannel 13's Emily Allen called the conditions miserable.
Peyton firefighters said they've been involved in several rescues along Highway 24, including one involving a family of five with three children. Luckily, there have been no serious injuries to report.
CDOT has also closed Highway 94 from Ellicott to Rush in eastern El Paso County.
US Highway 40 from Limon to the Kansas border has also been closed because of winter conditions.
