Water bottle proceeds go toward replanting trees in Waldo Canyon burn scar

Water bottle proceeds go toward replanting trees in Waldo Ca

The initiative is called reGrowCO, and the mission is simple: to improve, preserve and protect the natural beauty of Colorado.

The Colorado Springs Professional Firefighters, Local 5, have teamed up with Polar Bottle and Vladimir Jones to create a water bottle that will support areas that have been devastated by wildfires.

For every $15 water bottle purchased, one tree will be planted in the Waldo Canyon burn scar.

The initial goal was to sell enough bottles to plant one tree for each of the 1,600 firefighters who battled the Waldo Canyon Fire.

According to Jeremy Kroto, president of the Colorado Springs Professional Firefighters Foundation, that goal has been reached.  Now they are hoping to take the initiative one step further.

"Unfortunately it was a lot more than 1,600 trees that were lost during the Waldo Canyon Fire.  There was thousands, and thousands, and thousands of trees.  We don't want to stop planting trees.  We want to continue with this initiative and continue to give back," said Kroto.

For each reGrowCO water bottle sold, $3.50 will be donated to the ReForest Colorado Fund to plant a tree.  Another $1.50 will also be donated to the Colorado Springs Professional Firefighters Foundation for each bottle sold.

The bottles can be purchased at the ReGrowCO website.
