COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The 2012 drought has hit the Colorado Springs water supply hard, and 2013 is looking no better according to Colorado Springs Utilities
Monday, representatives with Colorado Springs Utilities told City Council that the high temperatures, lack of rain, and low snow pack has put stress on Colorado Springs' water supply. Wayne Vanderschuere is the Water Resources Manager for Colorado Springs Utilities and he said it is critical that water supplies be rebuilt.
"This looks to be the second year of a severe drought where we have had abnormally low snow pack, high temperatures, and low precipitation. It looks like we a headed into our second year our current snow pack is lagging behind 2012," said Vanderschuere
The utility is looking for water management solutions and that will likely mean water restrictions.
Colorado Springs Utilities is proposing Stage Two water restriction. The restriction would not affect water usage indoors or business use, but it would mean no watering outside on certain days of the week.
