BLACK FOREST, Colo. - Heavy rain on Wednesday caused flash flooding but mostly on the east side of the Black Forest burn scar.
High water and ash covered parts of Herring Road just north of Shoup Road. El Paso County crews quickly cleared the roads, but much of the debris flowed into yards of some homeowners.
"I freaked out when I saw it coming," said the teen daughter of a homeowner. "I called my dad at work and he came to see it."
The teen's father shook his head as he saw ash miss most of his property but accumulate on surrounding properties.
"Who's going to be responsible for cleaning this up?" he asked.
Heavy rain also forced the temporary closure of Hodgen Road near the Goshawk Road intersection. However, workers said the closure was due less to burn scar flooding and more to rain that washed out soil from a construction site.
