Woman crashes into car, charged with DUI

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A two-car accident closed the intersection of Briargate Pkwy. and Voyager Pkwy. for several hours as authorities investigated.

The two cars crashed into each other as they entered the intersection around 2:00 Saturday morning.

Emergency medical personnel extricated both drivers from their cars. The drivers were the only ones in their cars. Both were taken to the hospital.

After further investigation, authorities found that the driver of the first car ran through a red light, hitting the second car.

The driver who ran through the red light is identified as Melanie Rountree, 51, of Monument. She was arrested and is charged with vehicular assault, reckless driving and driving under the influence.

The second driver was treated for serious injuries but is expected to live.
