WOODLAND PARK, Colo. - Woodland Park Mayor David Turley was arrested Friday morning (5/23/14) by Woodland Park police.
Turley is facing charges of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust. He is out of jail after posting $10,000 bond.
Turley didn't want to go on camera, but he said he's innocent and the allegations against him make him sick to his stomach.
Woodland Park Police say they are aware of one alleged victim.
The Woodland Park Police Department is investigating this case with help from the Colorado Springs Police Department.
At a news conference Friday, police said a search warrant was executed at Turley's home Thursday evening. The house and a vehicle were searched and some items were taken from the home, although police did not say what.
Woodland Park Police say they cannot release any other information right now.
An emergency meeting was called at city hall Friday morning to notify staff of the arrest.
The city website says that Turley was elected Mayor in April 2012.
The site describes Mayor Turley as "the presiding officer of the Council and the recognized head of the City government for all legal, dignitary and ceremonial purposes."
The site goes on to say that Turley "presides at meetings of the Council, is conservator of the peace, and has authority to command the assistance of all able-bodied citizens to aid in the enforcement of the ordinances of the City in time of disaster, and to suppress riot and disorder under extraordinary circumstances requiring immediate action."
People who live in Woodland Park have mixed reactions about the mayor's allegations.
"It's awful, the most horrible crime to commit against a child or anyone for that matter. No one should be in authority that does that to anyone," Woodland Park resident Christine Kliewer said.
"I've had a very positive experience with Dave (Turley) and I never had an issue so it really kind of surprised me when I saw it," Woodland Park resident Brett Book said.
