COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Colorado Springs Police say an arrest has been made in a shooting death that happened early Tuesday morning. The death has been ruled a homicide.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. in the 1700 block of Monterey Road near Shasta Drive.

Police have identified the victim as Kenneth Wayne Bentley, 39. They say the shooter was David Jason Barker, 32. Both men are from Colorado Springs.

Barker was arrested Tuesday and is being held at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. He is facing a charge of 2nd degree murder.

Miguel Perez said he won't be getting any sleep tonight after what he saw Tuesday morning.

"Dispatch told me to give him CPR, but it was graphic, it was bad. There was nothing I could do for the guy," said Perez.

Although the deadly shooting did shake him up, it didn't surprise him.

"There are always gun shots in this neighborhood," said Perez.

Bentley was found right outside of Lawn Guys, a local business. The store owner didn't' want to speak with us on camera, but said he's tired of the crime in the area, and as soon as the crime scene is cleared up, he's clearing out.

We also spoke with a man who owns a gym near the crime scene. He said he's not at all surprised the shooting happened. In fact, a big reason he opened his gym was to help out his community.

"It scares me for the community. This is another bad thing to talk about with Pikes Peak Park. There are great people in this community and they all stick together when this happens," said, Matthew Pertz.

Trying to make a positive influence in a tough community, Pertz, says the doors to 719 Fitness are always open.

"I feel bad for the children that live around here, we're trying to give them something better to look forward to with the gym being here, they can come here whenever they want."

Police say this marks the 15th homicide in Colorado Springs in 2014. There had been 22 homicides in the city at this time last year.
