Mom pleads guilty to child abuse in death of 2-month-old daughter

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

A Colorado Springs woman has pleaded guilty to Child Abuse Resulting in the death of her 2-month-old daughter.

Lakeria Shazarae Grant entered the guilty plea on July 31. She faces 4 to 12 years in prison or community corrections. Sentencing is scheduled for November 8.

Grant's 2-month-old daughter Harmone'e Grant died in December of 2011. An autopsy found the baby suffered a severe brain injury and four lacerations to her liver.

A jury convicted the girl's father, Roderick Elam Jr., of child abuse resulting in death in January of this year. He was sentenced to 32 years in prison.

At the time of the killing, Elam was a private first-class assigned to the 4th Infantry Division's 4th Brigade Combat Team. He was later discharged from the Army.

Lakeria Grant will be sentenced on November 8.
