Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials say a moose may appear passive from a distance, but that can change if people or dogs get too close.
Wildlife officials say that on Monday, a 55-year old woman hiking with her dogs in Boulder County was knocked down and kicked by a moose that was with its two calves.
Wildlife officials say the dogs were off leash and ran toward the moose. They say the woman moved toward the moose to gather her dogs when she was knocked down by the adult moose and kicked.
She was taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries but has been released.
Boulder area wildlife manager Larry Rogstad says keeping dogs leashed and staying at a distance from wildlife is essential for the safety of all involved.
