Bonfils in Colorado Springs taking blood donations to send to Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - After one of the worst shootings in U.S. history struck on Sunday night, the country is joining hands to help where it can.

Even in Colorado Springs, people can make a difference.

Bonfils is opening its Springs donor center at Austin Bluffs Parkway and Academy Boulevard on Tuesday, October 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A spokesperson with Bonfils said that United Blood Services in Las Vegas has already provided nearly 200 units of blood and blood products to area hospitals treating victims of Sunday night's shooting.

For now, United Blood Services has been able to keep up with demands, and Bonfils Blood Center stands ready to send blood to Las Vegas if needed.

While O-positive, O-negative, and platelet donations are most needed, Bonfils Blood Center urges both existing and first-time donors of all blood types to call 1.800.365.0006, option 2 or 303.363.2300 to schedule an appointment at one of our eight donor centers or at a mobile blood drive.
