Colorado man killed during avalanche...

SQUAW VALLEY, Calif. - A Colorado man is confirmed as the person killed while doing avalanche control in California.

Joe Zuiches, 42, lived in Olympic Valley and was a member of the Squaw Valley Professional Ski Patrol since 2012.

He died working on avalanche patrol at a ski resort in Squaw Valley, east of Fresno.

"Most of the hand charges are relatively safe. They're used at ski resorts all over the United States, so it's kind of unique for this to happen," said Lt. Fred Guitron.

A Squaw Valley spokesperson says they believe the cause is "detonation of an explosive charge."
