Neighbors Shocked By Shooting Death

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The victim of a shooting that happened Saturday night on the 400 block of North Nevada, has died. He is identified as 27-year-old James Crouch. Police say the shooter and victim were looking at guns, when one of the guns went off. Neighbors were devastated by the tragedy.

"At first I thought it was a tire that had popped, but it was really sad to go down and see what happened," said Brittany Ferrence, who heard the gun go off the night of the shooting.

Colorado Springs Police say a handgun went off in an apartment home on Saturday night. One man was shot in the chest. He was rushed to Penrose Hospital in serious condition.

"I heard him scream and it was terrifying. I couldn't believe what happened," said Ferrence.

The house where it happened is split into several apartments. One of those apartments was home to Jimmy Crouch, the victim of the shooting.

"He was a really nice guy. He always helped out when I had my groceries in my hands. It was really sweet of him," said Ferrence.

Neighbors say Crouch was a great guy who loved to joke and make people laugh. "He was definitely one who stuck in our minds," said Ferrence.

David McRea, 22, is being held on charges of second degree assault and manslaughter in connection to Crouch's death.
