Genghis Khan dies, American women win the right to vote, Elvis Presley scores his second No. 1 hit, and Jimi Hendrix closes down Woodstock, all on this day.
2005: Dennis Rader, aka the BTK Killer, receives 10 consecutive life sentences nearly two months after pleading guilty to 10 murders that spread fear across Wichita, Kansas, from 1974 through 1991. He was particularly known for sending taunting letters to police and newspapers describing the details of his murders. "BTK" stands for "Bind, Torture, Kill," which was his infamous signature. After a long hiatus, Rader resumed sending letters in 2004, leading to his arrest in February 2005.
