Pedestrian killed on I-25 in Colorado Springs identified

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The man killed on Interstate 25 Wednesday in Colorado Springs was identified Friday.

The El Paso County Coroner's Office said 47-year-old Jeremy Valdez was killed when he was hit by a semi while crossing I-25 just north of Garden of the Gods Road.

It's not clear where Valdez is from at this time. Police said he was trying to cross from west to east when he was hit shortly around 6 p.m.

The driver of the semi isn't expected to be cited, police said.

A section of Interstate 25 in Colorado Springs was shut down for several hours Wednesday near Garden of the Gods Road due to a fatal accident involving a pedestrian.

One person was hit in a southbound lane. Witnesses reported seeing a person running across I-25 after standing near the shoulder.

CSPD said the person was killed, but no identity has been released yet. Drugs or alcohol aren't believed to be involved.

Both lanes of southbound I-25 were reopened by about 9:30 p.m.
