COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Colorful hot air balloons from all over the world filled the blue sky in Colorado Springs for the final weekend of the Colorado Balloon Classic.

The event will not be returning to the city next year.

“It is the final time. It's kind of a bittersweet situation for most of us who are part of the classic ,” Organizer David Begin said.

As for the future of the classic, Begin said that’s up in the air.

“We don't know to be honest, that's something after the classic everyone is going to be analyzing what the options are for the classic,” he said.

Thousands of people went to Memorial Park this morning to see the balloons take flight, but since this will be the final Labor Day weekend for the event in Colorado Springs, they said they are going to miss it.

“It’s very sad, it’s something my kids enjoy,” Amanda Bonsaint said. She said she has been going to the classic the last 25 years.

“I’m going to be sad because we really love coming out here,” Pilot Tim Taylor said. He has been going to the classic the last eight years.

El Paso County and the City of Colorado Springs said they both have a plan in the works to replace the Colorado Balloon Classic next Labor Day weekend.
