LONGMONT, Colo. -

Police have arrested a man who they believe stole several vehicles outside of Denver Wednesday morning.

Police said it began in Longmont when the man stole a sport utility vehicle was from a gas station. It was left running outside with a 4-year-old boy inside. Police said the boy is safe.

Soon after the sport utility vehicle was reported stolen earlier in the morning from a gas station, television helicopters spotted a vehicle matching that description speeding along Interstate 25. After about a half hour, the driver stopped and carjacked a minivan and took off in it the wrong way on the highway.

Later, after apparently losing a tire on the minivan, he sideswiped another vehicle and threw the driver out of the car.

The suspect was arrested after fleeing the car, slipping on ice in a shopping center and failing to clear a fence Wednesday morning.
