Police search for suspect in four Academy Bank robberies
Police think the same man is behind four robberies at Academy Bank on Briargate Boulevard. The latest robbery took place Monday.
Academy Bank on Briargate Boulevard has been robbed five times since January. The first one has been solved. The last four took place in May, June, July and August. The suspect description in all instances is the same, a white man, about six feet tall, weighing around 160 pounds and thin. Police are asking the community, especially those who live in the area to keep an eye out for him.
"If he feels it was relatively easy for him and he's comfortable, maybe he knows the surroundings, where he can get away, that's his level of comfort, so maybe that's where he's going back," Barbara Miller, with the Colorado Springs Police Department said.
Miller said the police department works with banks and gives them tips for deterring bank robberies. She suggests things like having a no hat or sunglasses policy, having high-quality surveillance outside the building, hiring off-duty officers or security guards, training employees and having a height measurement chart.
There have been 16 bank robberies in Colorado Springs this year, an increase from last year's 12. All of this year's robberies, except the four latest at Academy Bank, have been solved.
