The Colorado Springs Police Department says an officer had to use a Taser to subdue a 16-year-old at Doherty High School Monday (5/19/14).
School staff asked a resource officer to help them with an upset student at 9:45 a.m.
Staff members told police that the 16-year-old overturned a school desk.
The School Resource Officer says that when he tried to contact the teen, he began running.
The resource officer was able to catch up with the teenager and tried to arrest him, but the officer says he put up a fight.
The resource officer was finally able to control the teen with the help of some patrol officers who were called in to help.
Police say that the 16-year-old hit one of the officers with his elbow as the officers were escorting him to a cruiser.
The officers took the teen to the ground and asked him if he was done fighting. Police say the teen said that he was not and continued to struggle. That's when officers say they used a Taser to subdue him.
The teen was arrested and is facing charges for assault, resisting arrest and interference with staff of an educational institution.
