PUEBLO - Colo. - Late Saturday night, Pueblo police arrested a woman as a suspect in the weekend homicide of a man in the downtown area.
Rosalyn Hernandez, 29, was identified by witnesses, police said, and is in jail facing a charge of second-degree murder.
On Saturday afternoon, The Pueblo County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Christopher Piserchio, 25, of Pueblo.
Police found Piserchio lying in the street after being run over by a car near the intersection of City Center Drive and Central Plaza around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Piserchio was trying to stop an altercation between two women in a vehicle before being run over by that vehicle, police said.
Piserchio later died from his injuries at a local hospital.
A witness told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that Piserchio had just left one of the downtown bars at closing when the incident happened, and she stayed with him until an ambulance arrived.
"He was still breathing," the witness said.
Several hours later, police found the suspect vehicle in the 100 block of Massari Road, near the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo.
The investigation continues.
Piserchio's parents, Mike and Holly Fairbairn, said they want Hernandez to answer their questions about the circumstances leading to his death.
"I know you're probably scared, but tell us what happened. Why did you drive over him and leave?" said Mike Fairbairn.
The Fairbairns said they received a call from a hospital about Piserchio around two hours after the incident.
"We had an hour to say goodbye to him," Holly Fairbairn said. "He never regained consciousness."
Piserchio also leaves behind a brother, 19, and a sister, 13.
