Commissioner Ortiz looking to improve...

PUEBLO, Colo. - KRDO NewsChannel 13 got a firsthand look at the aging walls inside the Pueblo County Jail and Detention Center on Wednesday.

The tour comes after Commissioner Ortiz formed the Pueblo County Jail task force.

He's looking to find a solution to address the jail's critical building system needs.

During the tour, Ortiz and Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk Taylor talked about short and long-term solutions to address issues like safety, structural problems and overcrowding.

“I think through this task force, the something that we do is the right thing to do for our community. It's definitely the right thing to do for my employees. They work hard, they work in very unsanitary in some cases, conditions... unsafe conditions at times,” said Sheriff Taylor.

Ortiz says his task force is mapping out numerous options to address the issues and working to find a way to finance it.
