Pueblo police involved in deadly shooting after man drives car towards officers

PUEBLO, Colo - Pueblo police are investigating a deadly shooting involving an officer after a suspect allegedly tried running their car into him.

It happened early Sunday morning. 

According to a statement released by Pueblo police, the officer involved shooting  took place near the intersection of Small and Acero on Pueblo’s southside.

Officers were in the area around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday evening in regards to a suspicious vehicle that turned out to be stolen. Upon completion of that call, officers left the area. They were then called back to the same area around 12:15 a.m. on an attempt to locate a wanted suspect in connection with the case.

Once police returned, they contacted an occupied vehicle parked on Small Ave. The driver backed his vehicle into a police car before driving forward, colliding into a parked vehicle, and directing his car at officers. Police then fired upon the vehicle, striking the driver who later died from his wounds.

The incident has been turned over to the 10th Judicial District Critical incident team. The investigation is ongoing.
