Pueblo police make arrest in Sunday's shooting, armed robbery

PUEBLO, Colo. - A 24-year-old has been arrested for robbing a man at gunpoint and shooting another late Sunday night.

Ernest Cancino-Vigil is being accused of holding a man at gunpoint and stealing his bicycle, shoes, jacket and a knife as well as shooting another person.

Police were called to the area of 4th and Glendale at around 11 p.m. When they arrived, they were approached by the victim who was claiming he had been robbed.

Officers checked the area but were unable to find the suspect.

Around an hour later, officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area of E. 4th Street. Officers did not find anything at the scene but at around 3 a.m. they got a call from a local hospital stating that a victim there had a gunshot wound.

That victim told police that he was shot near 4th and Monument. He was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
Officers were able to find Cancino-Vigil in the 1400 block of E. 3rd Street and arrested him for his connection with both cases.

Cancino-Vigil was arrested and transported to the Pueblo County Detention Center where he will face charges of 2nd Degree Assault, Robbery, Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender and Felony Menacing.

The investigation is ongoing.
