PUEBLO, Colo. - Pueblo County received good news about the rate of teen pregnancies.
According to data from the Pueblo City-County Health Department released Monday, the rate has dropped more than 56 percent over the past six years.
in 2009, almost 63 out of every 1,000 teenage girls in Pueblo aged 15 to 19 experienced a pregnancy. Now, that number sits at just 27.5.
The department told us that the community helped bring that number down.
"The community really has has come together to work to provide more positive youth development and good opportunities for young men and women as well as information and education, Lynn Procell, director of Community Health Services for the health department, said."
This data covers teens aged 15 to 19. According to the Pueblo City-County Health Department teenage pregnancy can lead to young families living in poverty.
