Russell Middle School staff and students saying thank you
Helping honor those who served our country
A busy Friday at Russell Middle School. Students and staff were gearing up for a special ceremony to honor veterans and present a check to send a World War Two Veteran on an Honor Flight to D.C. They raised more than 15 hundred dollars for this special trip. This was a followup to a story I told you about weeks ago in a Wear Red Friday Hero story.
Abeni Froehlich is one of the eighth graders who is proud to have been a part of this event, "I think it's great because my Dad was in the military. It's great what they do everyday."
World War Two Veteran Barbara Saks has a unique link to World War Two. She was part of the Royal Air Force which was then the Women's Auxiliary Air Force. She was grateful to the kids and staff for this special moment, "This is such a wonderful city. It acknowledges their military. I've never been so overwhelmed with the attention everyone pays to us."
Captain James Hargus is a Fort Carson soldier who was also among a long line of veterans who was thanked at the ceremony, "This is my first Veterans Day here and the program is outstanding."
If you know someone who is deserving of being a Wear Red Friday Hero, go to our main page, Wear Red Friday Section and fill out the nomination form. Every Friday we wear red to honor our military and those who support them and our community. Hope to see you in red next Friday.
