"Save Art!" keeping art in schools
Hotel raises money for Monterey Elementary
It's a fun and educational way for kids to express themselves - art. A community program to help save art in schools is wrapping up in Colorado Springs.
SpringHill Suites on Highway 24 and Powers has been hosting a month-long drive called "Save Art". Elementary students paint pictures in exchange for donations from the community. The goal is to keep art programs funded at under-resourced like Monterey Elementary.
"We're really extremely blessed to have them donate for this program because [it] not only supports the kids, but it supports their creativity and helps them to be able to grow as an artist and deep thinking, too," said art teacher Kelly Champlin.
The art drive is a partnership with "Fresh Artists". In the past five years, they've successfully raised for than $250,000 for art in public schools.
