A Colorado Springs man has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography.
A judge in Denver ordered Clifton Brett Bennett, 56, to serve 57 months in federal prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release.
Citing court records, the U.S. Department of Justice said that between November 1, 2008 and April 15, 2011, Bennett knowingly received material that contained child pornography and that on January 23, 2013, Bennett knowingly possessed child pornography.
The DOJ says that a United States Postal Inspector contacted the Colorado Springs Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children Unit after determining that someone in the city had spent over $4,000 purchasing more than 100 child pornography videos over a number of years. That person was later identified as Bennett.
The DOJ says that Bennett's home and computer were searched during the investigation. It says that detectives found sexually explicit images of underage boys on his computer, that he downloaded child pornography, and that DVD's of child pornography were found. It says the DVD's were delivered through the U.S. Postal Service from New York.
Investigators also determined that Bennett was a member of the “North American Man-Boy Love Association.”, according to the DOJ.
Once released from prison, Bennett will have to register as a sex offender.
