St Paws helping hand
Richard Lipphardt's reason to help the community
Richard Lipphardt is a quiet and strong force behind the positive work at the St Paws Thrift Store near the Walmart off Platte. Richard retired from the Air Force last year after 24 years. He started volunteering for this animal friendly organization eight to nine months ago. Richard's sister got him involved. He's proud to be part of St Paws, "I think we are here to take care of the animals. That what we are supposed to do. That's what we are charged with. They don't have a voice. They can't do it alone."
I caught up with Richard while he was scraping and sanding the floors of the store that St Paws has expanded into which is next door to the current facility. Richard Lipphardt has been looking for a job since retiring and told me it's been tough, but the work he's done at St Paws, "This keeps me sane. It gives me a purpose. This organization gives back to the animals."
Julie Mayr works at St Paws and nominated Richard Lipphardt to be our Wear Red Friday Hero. She told me, "Anyone who has served our country is definitely a hero anyway but Richard has gone above and beyond. He is on call to do anything for our organization, seven days a week."
St Paws Thrift Store just had its second year anniversary in February and is going strong. The goods donated to the facility are sold and used to help more than 30 different animal help groups to help them with anything that's needed to care for animals. St Paws has given away 100 thousand dollars.
I've put a link to this animal friendly organization on Links We Mentioned on our homepage.
You can nominate a Wear Red Friday Hero, too. Go back to our homepage and go to the Wear Red section. The nomination form is on there.
