2 Colorado pot shop employees face embezzlement charges

CORTEZ, Colo. - Two employees at a southwestern Colorado marijuana dispensary are facing felony charges for allegedly stealing from the store.

Police say Timber Higgins and Sheila Castor embezzled more than $12,000 from The Medicine Man marijuana dispensary in Cortez. They're accused of ringing up phony military discounts of 15 percent, but charging the customers full price and pocketing the difference.

The owner of the dispensary tells the Cortez Journal that she noticed the increase in military discounts last month. She reviewed her store's transactions and concluded that Higgins and Castor were ringing up the phony discounts, then reported the case to police.

Higgins and Castor received felony summonses for embezzlement on Thursday. The two are scheduled to appear in Montezuma County Court on March 15.
