5-vehicle crash in Alamosa Co. leaves 1 dead

ALAMOSA COUNTY, Colo. - Colorado State Patrol is investigating a five-vehicle crash in Alamosa County that left one dead on Wednesday.

The accident happened at 12:15 p.m. on Colorado 160, on La Veta Pass.

A 2003 Cadillac Escalade was passing a vehicle traveling westbound on Colorado 160 when it crossed the middle line and hit a 2010 Toyota Camry that was traveling eastbound. This bumped the Toyota Camry into a nearby Freightliner that was pulling a trailer. The Toyota Camry then bounced off the trailer and traveled into the westbound lane where it hit a 2006 Kia Spectra.

The Cadillac didn't stop and eventually hit a BMW that was traveling eastbound head on.

Patricia Lucero was driving the Toyota Camry and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported by CSP.

Authorities believe speeding may have contributed to the crash.

This is an ongoing investigation.
