JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - A woman from Jefferson County will soon be sentenced for faking cancer to steal nearly $70,000 from an elderly man.
The First Judicial District announced on Tuesday that Nahid Moshrefi, 50, will be sentenced on September 8.
She could spend up to 24 years in prison as a result of being convicted of two felony counts of theft of an at-risk elder and criminal exploitation of an at-risk elder on July 24.
This comes after Moshrefi met the 80-year-old online and began dating him for several months in 2013 under the alias of Venus. During that time, she told the man that she had cancer and only had five to six months to live.
The victim's bank notified police when bank officials started seeing large amounts of money being transferred to Moshrefi's account. The victim told police that he was giving Moshrefi money for her cancer treatments.
Moshrefi even convinced the man to buy her a car and allow her to be installed as the sole beneficiary in his will.
