Colorado teen accused of suffocating newborn daughter with rock

DENVER - Prosecutors have charged a 16-year-old girl with first-degree murder for allegedly suffocating her newborn baby with a rock.
KUSA-TV reports the girl was arrested in September, two days after her daughter died at a hospital. The TV station reports the teen is being charged as an adult.

KDVR identified the mom as Alaya Dotson and her daughter as Amekah. It reports that Dotson admitted to shoving the rock down her baby's throat.

The baby was just a few hours old when she died. According to court documents, the teen's mother called 911 and said her daughter had just delivered a baby and that the child was on the ground in the home's backyard and looked dead.
Doctors at the hospital found a rock lodged in the baby's throat.
