Denver has evicted people living in a longtime art and music space after firefighters say they found serious fire code violations.
Rhinoceropolis provides people a place to stage concerts and art shows in but firefighters say as many as five people were living in the two-story industrial brick building on Thursday. They were told to leave immediately.
The eviction, which came in frigid weather, follows the deaths of dozens of people at an illegally occupied warehouse in Oakland.
In a statement, department spokeswoman Melissa Taylor said firefighters were called to the building by police following reports of unsafe building conditions. She said those evicted declined help finding housing.
City officials planned to meet with the building's owner on Friday.
