Hanging Lake Trail to temporarily close Sunday

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. - A popular hike for tourists is set to close temporarily on Sunday.

Hanging Lake Trail and Hanging Lake exit 125 off Interstate 70 will close midnight Sunday to begin maintenance.

Rocky Mountain Youth Corps crews will work alongside the U.S. Forest Service to remove unwanted trees along the trail, build new, safer rock steps to Sprouting Rock waterfall and build barriers to better protect resources.

“We are asking the public to please respect the temporary closure so the crews can get in and conduct some much-needed work,” district ranger Aaron Mayville said.

Officials expect the trail to reopen by midnight June 9.
