Juvenile arrested outside Colorado high school with loaded gun in backpack

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. - A juvenile was arrested outside a high school in Douglas County with a loaded gun, which was reported stolen out of Pueblo, in his backpack on Tuesday.

A Chaparral High School resource officer spotted the juvenile in the school parking lot at around 2:17 p.m.

When the officer approached the teen, he tried to walk away. The minor was eventually caught and restrained. The SRO searched him and found the loaded gun inside his backpack.

At first, the officer thought he was a student but later discovered that the teen did not attend Chaparral.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is unsure of why the minor was at the high school. He was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center with charges pending.

This is an ongoing investigation.
