Peak 2 Fire 85% contained, evacuations lifted

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. - Fire fighting crews made major progress over the weekend, putting the Peak 2 Fire at 85 percent contained on Monday.

The 84-acre fire burning between Frisco Breckenridge caused some evacuations, but they were lifted as of Sunday.

Miners Creek Road was still closed on Monday as crews continued to increase containment lines and mop up any hot spots.

Peaks Trail, Gold Hill, Wheeler, Miners Creek trails are also closed as well as parts of the Colorado Trail.

Crews are still working to prepare a contingency line that would help protect the Peak 7 neighborhood, Breckenridge Ski Area, and the Town of Breckenridge from future fire activity.

Resources are being released to travel home or to other fires in the West.

Authorities have banned the use of drones in the Peak 2 Fire area stating,"There is a Temporary Flight Restriction in place over the fire. If you fly, we can't."
