COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

A standoff in Colorado Springs ends in an arrest of a robbery suspect Friday night.

It happened in 3900 block of Surrey Lane around 10 p.m. That is near North Academy Boulevard.

Police said it all began around 6 p.m. Friday night. Police said Nicholas Mireles, 25, broke into a home with a machete. The suspect and the homeowner did know each other.

Mireles then barricaded himself inside of the home. Police said the threat to others in the neighborhood escalated, leading to the standoff. Officers notified people living nearby to stay inside of their homes.

Officers fired several flash bangs and tear gas into the home. Around 10 p.m. the man came out of the home peacefully and was arrested.

Neighbors said it's a night they will never forget.

"My kids called telling me the street was barricaded. I panicked, I was like what was going on and that's when we came home as fast as we can," Kimberly Elizando said.

"I was talking to one of my neighbors and when the standoff started to escalate, that is when officers asked us to go inside," Kurt Carraway said.

Mireles now faces burglary charges.
