Pueblo Police say a woman slipped out of her handcuffs and assaulted an officer who was driving her to jail Wednesday night.
The incident happened at around 9 p.m. at the intersection of 10th and Elizabeth.
Police say Justine Arrelano, 27, opened the partition that divides the front and back of the patrol car and began trying to climb into the front seat. Police say Arrelano then began to assault Officer J. Torres by punching and scratching her.
Arrelano also allegedly tried to reach for the gun Officer Torres was wearing in her holster, and to prevent officer Torres from radioing for help.
Police say Officer Torres was able to gain control of the situation with the help of a passer-by identified as Scott Valencia.
Officer Torres was treated for cuts and abrasions at a local hospital.
Arellano was charged with 2nd Degree Assault on a Peace Officer, Attempted Escape, Attempting to Disarm a Peace Officer, and Criminal Mischief in connection to the incident.
Arrelano was originally arrested on three outstanding warrants.
