PUEBLO, Colo. - The Pueblo County Coroner's Office identified Billy Ray Stiner, a 33-year-old man, as the victim killed in the triple shooting early Sunday morning.
Cpt. Kenny Rider, with the Pueblo Police Dept. said they are leaning towards ruling this a homicide, based on self-defense.
What we know
29-year-old Demecio Villegas sustained serious injuries and 28-year-old Ernesto Villegas, both brothers, received non-life threatening injuries.
It started with a noise complaint neighbors made to police because of a party hosted in the 900 block of Lake Avenue along the city's south-west side.
Officers were told by the residents they were about to go to sleep, but witnesses said the noise didn't stop. The shooting happened an hour later.
"It sounds like the person who is deceased went over to the other side of the duplex and engaged them," said Cpt. Rider. "He was armed."
Detectives will make a recommendation to the DA's office, but it's still unclear if anyone will be charged.
Austin Perkins has lived on Pueblo's south-west side for the past ten years.
"I've seen my fair share of stuff, it just comes with the neighborhood," he said.
Perkins, who lives across the street from the crime scene, woke up to gunshots Sunday morning.
"It sounded like a hammer hitting against my house," said Perkins. "It tripped me up, I woke up really fast and looked around to make sure it wasn't in my yard or something."
Perkins said these types of situations tend to escalate in this neighborhood.
This marks the city's fourth homicide in roughly the past month.
