40-acre fire burning north of Woodland Park, 85% contained

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. - A 40-acre fire is burning off of Highway 67, nine miles north of Woodland Park.

This fire is being called the Turkey Track 7 Fire. It is 85% contained.

As of Wednesday night, the forest service said control lines are in around the fire and work is underway to secure the lines.

The fire is burning on the perimeter of the 2002 Hayman Fire. Debris from that fire is providing fuel for the Turkey Track 7 Fire.

No buildings are threatened.

Two Type 2 hand crews, 3 engines, and 1 dozer worked the fire on Wednesday.

The shooting area at Turkey Track is closed, according to the forest service.

The immediate area around the fire will be closed until further notice for the safety of the public and firefighters.

Smoke from the interior of the burned area may be visible for multiple days.
