Air Force Academy's Cadet Chapel will close for renovations

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The historic Cadet Chapel on the campus of the United States Air Force Academy will close for renovations next summer and could remain closed until 2022 under current projections.

The news comes out of the Air Force Academy's annual State of USAFA event held Wednesday morning on the Academy's Colorado Springs campus. The renovations to the building will be conducted to seal off cracks between the glass and aluminum panels which line its sides and have caused water leakage and inconsistent heating and cooling of the building since its opening.

Originally constructed in 1962, the chapel rises 150 feet into the sky and is hilighted by seventeen iconic metalic spires. Nearly eight-hundred thousand tourists visit the chapel each year making it the number one man-made tourist attraction in Colorado.
