Animals put down after sanctuary's request to move is denied

ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. - The Lion's Gate Sanctuary said it had no choice but to put the animals to sleep after commissioners in Elbert County denied its request to move.

A total of 11 animals were put to sleep, including lions, tigers, and bears.

Lion's Gate said the animals were living in dangerous conditions because of flooding problems at its original property.

The owner of the sanctuary says that by denying her request to move, the county violated her property rights.
