ALLENWOOD, PA - Aurora theater shooter James Holmes has been moved to Allenwood Federal Prison in Pennsylvania. That is according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons' website.
Holmes was moved from a state prison in Cañon City in 2015 after he was attacked by a fellow inmate.
In April, a state committee found Colorado's corrections department should have done more to tell victims' families of his whereabouts. That led the department to update its policy on notifying victims.
George Brauchler, district attorney for the 18th Judicial District, tweeted:
Colorado has been working for months to place Holmes in federal custody. The delay was so the Federal Bureau of Prisons could find a facility with the appropriate security.
USP Allenwood is a maximum security facility with a total of 826 inmates, all are male.
