AURORA, Colo. - The man responsible for killing 12 people and injuring 70 others at a theater in Aurora, Colo. back in 2012 has been transferred to a federal prison.
The Colorado Department of Corrections announced James Holmes' transfer on Wednesday night. It said the State wanted him to be moved months ago, but "the placement required finding space at a facility that could provide appropriate security."
According to the Department, that space recently became available.

Three years later, a jury would convict Holmes on 24 counts of first-degree murder. But, he would be spared the death penalty. Instead, a judge sentenced him to life in prison without parole, plus more than 3,300 years.
