City election: Ballot issues passing; Knight, Skorman, Gaebler & Pico pull ahead in early results

Preliminary results for the 2017 Colorado Springs Municipal Election were released Tuesday evening, but the votes are still being counted.

The City Clerk's Office says it will release updated numbers at 8:15 and 9:15. Counting is expecting to continue through at least 11:30.

The first batch of results show all three Colorado Springs ballot questions winning by wide margins. If passed, issue 1 will require a vote of the people to sell utility own infrastructure, issue 2 would allow the city to keep excess tax revenue for stormwater projects, and issue 3 would give the city the authority to pursue providing internet and cable services.

Early city council race results show Don Knight with a strong lead over Greg Basham in District 1, Jill Gaebler with a strong lead over Lynette Crow-Iverson in district 5, and Andres Pico with a strong lead over his three challengers in district 6.

The early results also show Richard Skorman with a lead over Chuck Fowler in district 3 and incumbent Helen Collins falling behind Yolanda Avila and Deborah Hendrix in district 4.

Because votes are still being counted, the results are subject to change.
