Colorado Springs City Council debates stormwater fee

If passed, fees offset costs

Colorado Springs City Council must decide whether or not to introduce a stormwater fee measure on November's municipal election ballot.

The city is on the hook for 460 million dollars in stormwater projects over the next 20 years.

The agreement was reached in order to open valves for the Southern Delivery system, which pumps water to Colorado Springs, Security, Fountain, and Pueblo West from Arkansas.

Voters have rejected the idea of the fee in the past, but Mayor John Suthers says that may change.

A new survey shows voters are more open to the idea of the fee, which would be about 5 dollars a month per person.

Suthers likened the fee to funding for vital services such as Police.
